A tow bar usually is attached to the frame of a vehicle for towing. A tow bar is also attached to an aircraft's nose gear or sometimes paired with the main gears. In North America this attachment comes in two configurations: Fixed- drawbar and receiver type. The fixed-drawbars are built typically as a single piece. It consists of an integrated hole created basically for the trailer ball. These are not compatible with the aftermarket accessories. Receiver-type hitches are built with a portion that is made to mount the frame of the automobile. This vehicle should have an opening facing rearward which accepts detachable ball mounts, cargo carriers, bike racks or other hitch mounted parts. Removable ball mounts are used by receiver type bars and fixed drawbar types have the integrated ball mounts.
